Mr Norm Dean joined the Yew Chung Education Foundation (YCEF) as Deputy Director in August 2014. He holds a Master degree of Education in School Leadership from Monash University and a Graduate Diploma in Educational Administration from Melbourne University. Prior to joining YCEF, Mr Dean was Chief Education Consultant of Educational Services Overseas Limited (ESOL), based in Dubai since 2006. He provided support and high level advice to schools and senior executive teams in recruitment, performance management, school accountability, policy development and strategic planning. This followed a successful career with the Department of Education in Victoria, Australia, where his last position was Assistant Regional Director of Schools with responsibility for school improvement and performance across a range of early childhood learning, primary, special and high schools.
Throughout his career, Mr Dean has been a teacher, principal, curriculum consultant, state-wide policy manager, school superintendent and assistant regional director. He possesses profound experience in organising and managing school improvement projects in partnership with superintendents and school heads in a broad range of areas, including strategic planning, performance management, community building, budget management, staff appraisal, data analysis and student learning enhancement. As the chair of a state-wide policy committee, Mr Dean took a leading role in the development of processes and documents providing policy advice to schools in Victoria of Australia for linking pedagogical renewal with facilities/infrastructure planning.
In the international arena, Mr Dean has been involved with international school accreditation for many years as team member and chair, and was an inaugural member and deputy chair of the Council of International Schools (Australia). He is also the Treasurer of the Alliance of International Education (AIE) Board of Trustees. He has been involved with the AIE since 2004 and has a particular interest in the development of regional chapters and the potential they have to truly influence international mindedness and intercultural understanding. In addition, Mr Dean is a Master facilitator of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and has conducted programmes in schools within Australia, Europe and the Middle East.
