Growth and Self-Discovery: Two Perfect Scorers Reflect on Their Time at YCIS
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s IB exams were cancelled and final grades were awarded based on coursework, predicted grades and historical assessment data from schools. The uncertainties surrounding the unprecedented situation was definitely a cause for great concern for many students in Hong Kong and across the globe. It was therefore a surreal moment for students Isabella Yao and Christy Yuen of Yew Chung International School (YCIS) when both found out they achieved a perfect score of 45 points for their International Baccalaureate (IB) exams. Christy was also awarded the Bilingual Diploma for studying English and Chinese at native-speaking level, in which she gained top marks. In terms of post-secondary education, Isabella will pursue Medicine at the University of Hong Kong on a prestigious scholarship, and Christy has made the wise decision to take a gap year to further explore her own interests.
Remarkable IB Results for YCIS Students
We are delighted that 2 YCIS students obtained the perfect IB score of 45 points, and 20 students achieved 40 points or above in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma this year. Highlights of this year’s IB results:
YCIS Students Receive Top Scores in 2020 IGCSE Exams
This year has been an unforgettable year for our Year 11 students. When the Covid-19 school suspension began in February 2020, the school immediately introduced online classes, ensuring that learning and progress were not disrupted. Although our students had to prepare for the unprecedented changes in assessment, the hard work of our students and teachers have clearly paid off, and our students have been rewarded with outstanding exam results.
Gifts of Compassion: Stories from Three YCIS Parent Donors

What Are the Future Trends for International Education?
“The traditional international school concept is to transplant a western country’s education model to Hong Kong. My concept of international school is to bring people from different places and their culture together.”
Coming Together as a Community, a YCIS Parent's Perspective
What was it like to be a YCIS parent during the school suspension in the last three months? We talk to YCIS parent, Mrs Lan, who shares her thoughts on the YCIS E-learning programme, the support she received from the school, and the hygiene and safety measures YCIS put in place for school resumption. Her son, Y5 student Ivan Lan, also talks about his experience of E-Learning at home.
