YCIS Students Receive Top Scores in 2020 IGCSE Exams

This year has been an unforgettable year for our Year 11 students. When the Covid-19 school suspension began in February 2020, the school immediately introduced online classes, ensuring that learning and progress were not disrupted. Although our students had to prepare for the unprecedented changes in assessment, the hard work of our students and teachers have clearly paid off, and our students have been rewarded with outstanding exam results.

Congratulations to our Year 11 students for their stunning International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) results, which were announced a few days ago. One student, Ada Wong, achieved 11A*/As and six students scored 10A*/As. Another twelve students scored A* or A in 9 subjects. Other YCIS students also received outstanding results in the IGCSE exams.

Among the 113 students who registered for the exams, 96% were awarded a distinction or merit.

In the exams held in May and June 2020:

1 student received straight A’s (A* and A) in 11 subjects;
6 students received 10 A’s (A* and A);
12 students obtained 9 A’s (A* and A);

The achievements of the 2020 cohort are highlighted below:

No. of Year 11 students who sat the IGCSE exams: 113
No. of Distinction awards: 51
No. of Merit awards: 57
Percentage of A*- A grades = 45% of all subjects taken
Percentage of A* - C grades = 88% of all subjects taken

Education Director and Executive Principal Martin Scott said, “Congratulations to Ada Wong and all the Year 11 students and the school for their excellent achievements. Such results symbolize the success and commitment of YCIS’ unique educational approach in nurturing academically able students who are bilingually proficient, globally minded and well prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century. It is the collective efforts of the School, students, teachers and parents. We look forward to further developing and equipping our students as they move onto the IB Diploma Programme and further studies, and wish them all the very best.”
