Exciting New Activities Introduced to Co-Curricular Programme
The compulsory Co-Curricular Programme takes place on Wednesday afternoons for all YCIS–Secondary students. There are more than 40 Co-curricular activities (CCAs) currently on the list including a selection from sports, leisure and music. Students can try their hand at scriptwriting, photography, programming, yoga or cooking to name but a few. Joining a CCA is a great opportunity for students to learn new skills, make new friends, improve health and fitness levels and broaden their outlook far beyond the usual scope of classroom activities.
Uniformity Project to Help Underprivileged Children in Sichuan
Year 12 students Alice, Lora, Olina and Kelly are members of YCIS’s Charity Club. They meet as part of the Co-Curricular Programme (CCP) every Wednesday afternoon. The students have come up with a new initiative they’ve called “Uniformity”. They have started to collect old school uniforms from schools across Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The uniforms are then recycled into new products such as pencil cases and shopping bags and subsequently sold online and at various school fairs. All the proceeds from the sales will be donated to a rural school in Sichuan. The project started in November 2015 and has been entered into Havard’s “China Thinks Big” challenge.
Special Welcome Assembly for Spanish Exchange Students
YCIS students and staff were thrilled to welcome two 12-year-old exchange students, David and Ines from the Padre Damian School in Barcelona, Spain. The alliance evolved from the successful YCIS World Classroom programme, which provides once-in-a-lifetime trips to several countries, including Spain for our Year 7–9 students. It’s the first time that exchange students have visited the school as part of the World Classroom programme. This new component is proving to be a great addition to the programme as it helps to foster the development of long-term international school friendships.
