2, Does the school provide school bus transportation to the schools?
YCIS has a large network of bus routes which provides transport for students to and from the most popular residential areas. All school buses are supervised and are equipped with seat belts.

4,Do you have any sibling policy?
This sliding scale sibling policy is applicable to all YCIS full time, whole-day programme students at Early Childhood Education, Primary and Secondary Sections.
From the junior to the senior student attending YCIS:

The second youngest child attending YCIS – less 15%

5, When do I need to pay the debenture?
The purchase of a debenture is mandatory for YCIS - Secondary students. There is no debenture arrangement for ECE and Primary students.
6, How much is the debenture amount?
The refundable debenture is at the amount of HK$200,000. It does not bear any interest and will be returned (less any outstanding fees or costs incurred by the student) to the registered holder no later than two months after the last school day of the student in accordance with the terms of the debenture.
7, What types of debenture does YCIS offer? What is the difference between personal and corporate debentures?
We have personal and corporate debentures; both are of the same amount at HK$200,000. The personal debenture is to be purchased under the name of the student's parent while the corporate debenture is to be purchased under the name of a company for the children of their shareholders, directors or employees to attend YCIS - Secondary.
8, How much do I need to pay for the debenture if I have more than one child in YCIS - Secondary?
We have a special arrangement for parents who have more than one child studying at YCIS - Secondary. The debenture amount for sibling is reduced on a sliding-scale basis as follows:

9, How is the debenture refunded?
The school will fully refund the debenture to parents within two months after the student's withdrawal from the school according to the terms of the debenture and irrespective of the reasons of the student’s leaving.
10, Do you accept new students during the school year?
Although the school encourages parents to seek admission for their children before the start of each school year, it will consider the application of a student subject to the availability of space and the results of the admission tests (for Primary and Secondary) and interview with the parents.
11, What are the class sizes?
YCIS has always enjoyed a very low teacher-student ratio. The teacher-student ratio is simply defined as the number of students per teacher in the school. The teacher-student ratio includes all teaching staffs of both Western and Chinese teachers. Every effort is made to keep all YCIS class sizes well below the average of public and other private schools.

12, Do your students wear school uniforms?
Yes. All students wear school uniforms. There are a summer uniform, a winter uniform and a uniform for Physical Education and sporting activities. Except for the shoes and socks, which can be purchased from local stores, all uniform items need to be pre-ordered. Make-up, nail polish, jewellery or decorative items are not allowed. Hair must not be dyed.
13, How do we order a school uniform for our child?
If you wish to order school uniforms for your child, please contact the school office. You can also download an order form from the Parent Online System and return the completed form to the school office.
14, Does your school provide hot lunches?
YCIS offers hot and nutritious lunch for students. The food is selected and purchased daily, and meals are prepared in hygienic conditions under the supervision of our staff. Menus are carefully chosen to ensure a balanced and nutritious diet. If you would like to order lunch for your child, please contact the school office.
15, What amount of homework should students expect?
There is no official homework assigned for students in the Early Childhood Education section.
In the Primary section, while some homework is assigned for practising skills and ideas learned during a school day, homework is designed to be interesting and developmental. The amount assigned varies depending on the age and the class level of the student.
Once students enter the Secondary section, they need to adopt a more systematic approach of reviewing their work each day. Years 7-9 students should be doing at least 15-20 hours of homework a week. Students in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Programme and International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, if they want to be successful, should be doing 20-30 hours of homework a week. Discipline learned in doing homework each day will prepare students to perform strongly in the examinations.
When students are not doing assigned homework, they are encouraged to read.
16, What type of curriculum is offered?
YCIS’s international curriculum is based on the framework and schemes of work from the National Curriculum for England (NCE). It is a research-based curriculum that allows high standards and ease of transition for international students who move from one country to another. It also ensures a smooth transition between different Key Stage Levels until graduation. The focus in the Key Stage groups is to develop students’ skills and abilities to work both independently and co-operatively, and to think critically. English is the primary language of instruction. We have a strong Chinese Language Studies Programme and students are expected to attain a high level of fluency in both oral and written English and Chinese.
YCIS students may sit external examinations for the IGCSE at the end of Year 11. Upon successful completion of the IGCSE, students undertake further education in the IB Diploma Programme in Years 12 and 13.
17, Do you have after school activities?
Our after-school activities have been developed to meet the varied interests of students in Years 1-13. A wide range of activities including choirs, orchestras, bands, drama clubs, Christian clubs, sporting groups and Chinese cultural activities are offered.
18, Do you guarantee places for students in your schools?
YCIS is committed to providing a "through train*" education to its students. This means that current students are given priority to a place in the next class and the next section. Thus a student is guaranteed－assuming satisfactory academic progress, satisfactory behaviour, timely payment of the fees, and availability of space－to continue his or her studies in YCIS.

19, Can our children transfer within the network of YCIS schools?
All Yew Chung International Schools operate under the same Yew Chung educational philosophy, pedagogy and curricula. Under our internal transfer policy, families have a need to relocate can apply for a transfer to any school in our network of schools in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Qingdao and Chongqing in China and Silicon Valley in the United States.

21, How can you help my child successfully enter a college or university?
YCIS prides itself on how it prepares students for university entrance and university studies and commits itself to giving a curriculum of studies that nurtures, guides and strengthens the aptitudes and abilities of each student toward this goal. YCIS is committed to providing the appropriate learning environment, encouragement and support in making it happen. In addition, the school will use its good connections through the International Education Services Office to obtain university placements for students.

22, How do you prepare students to be well-rounded individuals?
YCIS is committed to the development of well-rounded individuals－academically, culturally, spiritually and in global leadership. Our strong academic programme provides students with a bilingual programme of learning that incorporates the best of the Chinese and Western cultures with an emphasis on being proficient in English and Chinese. Our cultural programme emphasises the importance of music, art, drama and design and the importance of developing and nurturing the creative potential in all students. In particular, the school is committed to having a strong instrumental music programme recognising the potential it has for developing students' intelligence in mathematics, science and computers.
Spiritual values are conveyed to students through the school-wide Personal and Social Education curriculum and the Community Service Programme in which students are expected to be involved in initiatives to assist charities and in helping others less fortunate than themselves. 23, How can parents help the students?
Parental participation and support is integral to children’s education. We encourage parents to attend meetings and to interact with teachers on a regular basis. We believe that each family is important and we want them to fully understand our philosophy and teaching methodology. As such, we hold regular parent education evenings, seminars and workshops. Parents are invited to join special events such as student-led performances, sports days, field trips, etc. In addition, an online platform www.ycef.com/parenting is available for parents to acquire different parenting resources.
