The foundation of the Yew Chung educational philosophy is blending Eastern and Western cultures. We believe in the benefits of being truly bilingual and that we should understand and appreciate the intrinsic nature of cultures. For this purpose, our Co-Principals, one international and one Chinese, jointly lead the school. They represent East and West, working closely together. In the lower grade levels, we have a unique co-teaching style, with one international and one Chinese teacher encouraging the use of both English and Chinese in the learning environment. Based on extensive research, our Chinese Studies programme includes China Classroom excursions and field trips. This programme is integrated into the Primary and the Lower Secondary curricula. We thus provide an environment that fosters bilingual education and develops each student’s appreciation of different cultures.
Our highly qualified and experienced teachers and educators use their expertise to research the curriculum for every subject and age group. The result is a unique international programme that draws the best from around the world and is not limited to one national curriculum. We value every child's learning journey and ensure our curriculum adheres to our school's philosophy. The workplace today requires mastery of a strong skill set, and this will be even more important for the next generations. Our researchers ensure that Yew Chung education develops the skills of our students in areas such as research, critical thinking, analysis, creativity, problem-solving, and collaborative work. We pledge to provide a well-rounded, holistic learning approach for every YCIS student. Our ultimate goal is to prepare our graduates to succeed in an ever-changing, globalised world as adults.
In 1932, Madam Tsang Chor-hang formed the first Yew Chung class in Hong Kong for kindergarten students. Even at the founding of Yew Chung, Madam Tsang Chor-hang had a profound and advanced vision, which became the basis of Yew Chung's educational philosophy today. In the following decades, Yew Chung broadened its coverage to provide education from early childhood to the secondary level. This development expanded to offer international education and to create pioneering teaching methods. No matter how the world has changed and developed, Yew Chung International Schools (YCIS) have become popular and well-known in each of their locations. The schools are internationally accredited and authorised by international examination boards.
At YCIS, we understand the important role we have in the immediate and the wider global society, and we have a strong sense of social responsibility. We uphold the significance of values, whether moral values among people or for the surrounding environment. Our Character Education programme allows our students to learn about pressing issues and understand their impact on other people. Through our World Classroom Programme, we offer our students hands-on opportunities to make a positive difference in helping others. From early childhood to secondary school, all students can gain a sense of responsibility by helping others to build a better world. We incorporate this goal into our school philosophy and ensure that all aspects of this goal are reflected in our programmes.
