    Overview

    Welcome

Our School Admissions looks forward to providing you with friendly, efficient service when you enquire or apply to our Kindergarten, Primary, or Secondary Programmes.

We welcome applications from eligible students of all nationalities, cultures, and educational and language backgrounds who share and support the YCIS philosophy, objectives, and values that shape our community. All throughout the year, we understand that international families need flexibility due to last-minute relocation, so to find out about place availability, we encourage you to contact Admissions directly. We offer many on-campus opportunities to discover more about your child’s education path with us.

“Our daughter started her class in August. She has made a lot of friends, and she enjoys the school. We are really happy that she adjusted herself into the new environment so well. Thank you for your time to help us get to know the school and we definitely made the right choice.” Mr and Mrs Crowhurst, 2016

    Eligible Applicants

To be eligible to apply to an international school, families must submit Hong Kong permanent identity card or foreign identification plus other documents that meet the regulations of the local government. For detailed questions about eligibility, please contact Admissions directly.

    Placement

Year level and programme placement of students at YCIS is based on several factors, including academic performance, English language proficiency, skills development, prior years of schooling, social development, date of birth, and learning needs. Please refer to our Age Placement Guide.

In addition to a review of previous school records, admissions assessments may also include a group or one-on-one interview, a written placement test, an additional assessment (for children with significant learning needs), and/or an online English language evaluation. Following assessment, the school will make the final decision regarding the appropriate year level and programme for your child.

Our helpful Admissions Guide can be downloaded and it shares our assessment descriptions, by age, with prospective parents.

When assessing applications, and arranging classes, our aim is to sustain a multicultural environment and balanced student community.

We admit students who we believe will positively benefit from the educational programmes we provide at YCIS. In order to be admitted, students must be able to access the regular curriculum without the need for services beyond our Learning Support and other available programmes and services.

YCIS’s Admissions Office operates a waiting pool system and the School will monitor for a suitable available place for your child. When a year level becomes full, we will maintain a waiting list of approved applicants, after a successful interview. Children with enrolled siblings at YCIS and children of alumni, receive priority in the admissions process. Contact us for more information on international school admissions, school registration and more.

YCIS Network of Schools – Internal Transfer

All YCIS schools operate under the same educational philosophy, pedagogy, and curriculum. We understand expatriate families sometimes need to be relocated around China and Hong Kong in particular, so we make it very convenient for enrolled students to transfer (not requiring the normal application process or fee) to any school in our network that includes Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing, and Qingdao (in China), and Silicon Valley (in the US).

These internal transfer applicants do need to meet the eligibility requirements of the local government, and will be assessed for admission and placement.
