    • On January 23, the sixth annual Seeds of Hope Concert was hosted by the Yew Wah International Education School of Guangzhou. The event was a spectacular display of music, dances, and songs performed both by students from the local Yew Wah (YW) campus as well as students from YCIS Hong Kong and other YCIS and YW schools across China.

The participating school orchestras performed traditional scores from composers such as Mozart as well as compositions by our own music director Gary Sanderson. Besides, the evening concert included violin solos, student choirs and even a dance number performed to a medley of songs by the pop group ABBA. The concert finale gathered all performers on the stage to sing the anthem “Seeds of Hope”.

At the beginning of the concert Dr Betty Chan, Director of the Yew Chung Education Foundation, shared her vision for Seeds of Hope as well as some of the milestone successes of the previous years. The goal of the concert was to raise money for the newest Seeds of Hope project in 2016 which will be the construction of a new teaching building for the 91 Primary School in Fa Dong, Guangzhou. The school, which provides education for 500 students from Grades 1 through 6, will become a sister school for YWIES Guangzhou. In the end the Seeds of Hope concert raised over RMB 170,000 yuan for the new school project.

The Seeds of Hope charity is an organisation wide initiative committed to educational improvement in China. The Seeds of Hope concert has become a yearly tradition of the YCIS and YW schools. In addition to raising funds for a worthy cause, the music concert creates an opportunity to spotlight the incredible talents of our students.
