We are incredibly proud to share that our Year 13 students, Calum, Bobby, Christie, and Donald, have been crowned the highest-scoring economics team in the world at the 2026 NEC Global Round, held at the University of Oxford.
The NEC is organised by the Council for Economic Education (CEE), a renowned academic institution in global economic and financial education with over 20 years of history. The CEE is a key partner of major Wall Street financial institutions, including PwC, Citibank, and Bloomberg. The competition is widely recognised across academic, financial, and business sectors worldwide. According to NEC data, over 20% of finalists have been admitted to world-class universities, including Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and Oxford.
Their journey began in the online round with around 30,000 participants, progressed to the national round in Changsha where they placed in the top 5%, advanced to the international finals, and culminated at the global round in Oxford — where they stood at the very top.
Their awards:
Looking back on their remarkable achievement, the team reflected with genuine humility, acknowledging just how far they had come since their early days as amateurs new to the competition. As they shared, “Rather than viewing the achievement as something to boast about, we see it as a reminder of our journey, the hard work we put in, and the memories we created together.”
The team also expressed their deep gratitude to their mentor, Mr Byun, emphasising that none of this would have been possible without his guidance and after-school sessions. Mr Byun reflected, "The sparks in their eyes whenever we discussed economics, these are the memories I cherish. This trophy is a testament to the power of joyful learning. Once learning becomes joyful, achievements do follow."
From the online qualifiers to the Oxford podium, this team has demonstrated extraordinary dedication, teamwork, and intellectual curiosity. They have brought great honour to our school community.
Please join us in congratulating Calum, Bobby, Christie, and Donald!
