On 19 November, YCIS made history by being the first school network to partner with the International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA) in putting up a 3- day virtual drama festival! Students of IGCSE Drama and IB Theatre from YCIS Shanghai Pudong, YCIS Shanghai Puxi and YCIS Hong Kong attended the event led by ISTA artists Fenella Kelly and Malina Patel.
The festival kicked off with opening remarks by Ryan Peet, YCIS Shanghai Co-Principal (and former YCIS Hong Kong Vice Principal). Then Fenella Kelly led her sessions in the UK. Being an event exclusive for YCIS students, the topics were tailor-made based on the needs of our students. Fenella's first session was about devising theatre, while her second session was on performing skills. Malina Patel, who led her session from Canada, covered building directing concepts and handling virtual coursework. The festival concluded with a display of sample work and a virtual presentation of certificates.
At YCIS, we hold workshops with international partners regularly to enrich our students’ exposure. As a global provider for the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) Theatre training, ISTA offers a highly beneficial experience to students in their understanding about themselves, their peers and the field. The IBDP at YCIS provides an excellent international education that helps equip Upper Secondary students to make informed choices and contributions as caring global citizens of the world.
