YCIS Hong Kong proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of its 2025 IGCSE cohort, with six students attaining a perfect sweep of 10 A*/A grades. These remarkable results are a testament not only to the students’ dedication but also to the school’s enduring commitment to holistic, bilingual, and globally-minded education.
Reflecting on their journey, students consistently highlighted how YCIS’s unique learning environment—from Early Childhood through Secondary—equipped them with the skills, mindset, and confidence to excel academically and beyond.
Many of this year’s top performers began their YCIS journey as young learners. Bobby Fu, who joined as a two-year-old, shared, “Looking back over my journey at YCIS, from being a two-year-old in Early Childhood through Primary and into Secondary, it really does consume my mind regarding how impactful YC has been.” The school's vibrant multicultural environment naturally blends into daily learning, creating an authentic and immersive context that effortlessly facilitates language acquisition. “ECE provided a nurturing environment where I could explore both languages with confidence,” he recalled.
This continuity allows for the progressive development of essential skills. Grace Sun emphasised the value of foundational experiences, “I developed these skills during my Primary years, where a Project-Based Learning (PBL) and inquiry-based learning were followed. Allowing skills of collaboration and teamwork to develop from the start was extremely beneficial and definitely helped me in my IGCSEs.”
Students mentioned the school’s diverse and inclusive environment as crucial to their success, particularly in subjects like Global Perspectives. Bobby Fu noted, “YC has really nurtured an environment where different cultures intersect, and because my teachers and peers are of diverse nationalities and backgrounds, I receive opportunities to learn about varying perspectives outside of mine.”
Annabelle Liu added, “The school contributed to my success in Global Perspectives IGCSE as I was already introduced to many of the course’s explored global issues in primary and lower secondary.” This early and sustained exposure to global issues through PBL and collaborative projects helped students build a strong foundation for critical thinking and research.
Learning at YCIS extends far beyond traditional classrooms. From World Classroom trips to university-led scientific research programmes, beyond-classroom experiences played a significant role in deepening students’ understanding and interest in their subjects.
Bobby Fu described how history trips to Germany and South Korea allowed him to gain firsthand experiences by seeing and touring historical monuments and hearing perspectives from locals. The trips solidify his understanding of historical facts. Annabelle Liu shared how participating in a chemistry programme at The Chinese University of Hong Kong gained her advanced chemistry knowledge and hands-on experience, making her revision process “a lot more enjoyable.”
“With teachers’ support, anything feels possible,” Donald Hung, another top scorer, highlighted the school’s support for passion-driven learning. He recounted attending a Massachusetts Institute of Technology Conference during mock exams, “I was able to delve deeply into a topic I’m passionate about, gain fresh perspectives, and return with insights that can be used to enrich not just my academic work but also help those around me.”
Students consistently credited their success to the unwavering support from YCIS teachers. Grace Sun expressed deep gratitude: “Teachers play a big part in our success. Not only did they guide us on structuring the report to meet the IGCSE criteria, but they were also extremely helpful outside of classes.”
Ms Linda Lagunzad, IGCSE Coordinator, reinforced this, stating, “We have always been able to boast about teachers’ willingness to go above and beyond to support our students. We also help students monitor their own progress very closely and ensure that they all get specific, personalised and timely feedback.”
The students’ successes are a reflection of YCIS’s mission to foster not only academic excellence but also well-rounded, confident, and compassionate individuals. As Bobby Fu aptly concluded, “I'm really grateful that YCIS didn't prepare me to just pass exams; it equipped me with skills whose value truly came to light during the IGCSEs and will serve me well in the coming IB diploma.”
YCIS Hong Kong takes immense pride in the cohort and eagerly anticipates supporting them as they embark on their next chapters, poised to shape their futures with curiosity, resilience, and a truly global perspective.
